An Introduction

I know what you're thinking - "Another travel blog? Just what the world needs." And to some extent you're right, the net is awash with them. So why am I doing it? Several reasons really. Since I'm taking a year out from the 9 to 5 grind, I want to develop some new skills along the way. Creating a website for starters. And improving my photography skills. While I’ve always been a reasonably good writer, putting my musings out in public will surely help me improve further. I recently told a friend that I think I suffer from what I call “self-conscious perfectionism” – that is, I’m a bit paranoid about what people think about anything I produce so I stress about getting it right first time. I plan to tap into that to ensure that what I publish is worth reading. Secondly, I'm planning to visit some amazing places over the next year so it'll be a great way to document my travels (and hopefully inspire my nieces and nephew to eventually travel themselves). And finally, I figured it'd be a really OTT labour-intensive way of replacing messages to my mother.

So here I am. Sitting in Armenia

putting the finishing touches on this blog. I'm already four months into the trip so I'll spend the next month playing catch-up on some of my favourite destinations and experiences while also writing about my travels in Armenia (and Iran, if I ever get the visa granted). Things might appear to be a little out of order to start off with but that'll settle down and begin to follow some semblance of order.

If you want to know more about a place I've written about, send me a message; there is a contact link at the top of the page. I’m always keen to help a fellow traveller.
